Christmas in the Big Apple part2

I'm sure you've heard about the fabulous window displays in New York at the big stores. For those of you who are not here, one of Macy's classic windows.

with apologies to Janet Evanovich

My name is not Stephanie Plum.  I do live in the Burg in Trenton. I do not have a hot cop as a boy friend.  I do love tomato pie! I do not have a sidekick named Lula who wears lots of spandex.
But I love the books!

I could not resist snapping a shot when I saw this shop in NYC.

Christmas in the Big Apple part1

I was up at wandering the big apple very early this morning. Lucky for me to be able to examine some of the fabulous Christmas displays without the throngs of people!

First installment: a quiet shot of the Empire State building without it's normal compliment of lighting in the early light of dawn.

The Doctor's Office

A good laugh was in my mailbox this morning:

They always ask at the doctor's reception why you are there, and you have to answer in front of others what's wrong and sometimes it is embarrassing.

There's nothing worse than a Doctor's Receptionist who insists you tell her what is wrong with you, in a room full of other patients.
I know most of us have experienced this, and I love the way this old guy handled it.

A 75-year-old man walked into a crowded waiting room and approached the desk.
The Receptionist said, 'Yes sir, what are you seeing the Doctor for today?'

There's something wrong with my dick', he replied.

The receptionist became irritated and said, 'You shouldn't come into a crowded waiting room and say things like that.  '

'Why not, you asked me what was wrong and I told you,' he said.

The Receptionist replied; 'Now you've caused some embarrassment in this room full of people.
You should have said there is something wrong with your ear or something and discussed the problem further with the Doctor in private.'

The man replied, 'You shouldn't ask people questions in a roomful of strangers if the answer could embarrass anyone.
The man walked out, waited several minutes, and then re-entered.

The Receptionist smiled smugly and asked, 'Yes??'

'There's something wrong with my ear,' he stated.

The Receptionist nodded approvingly and smiled, knowing he had taken her advice.
'And what is wrong with your ear, Sir?'

'I can't piss out of it,' he replied.

The waiting room erupted in laughter.

Have camera, will travel...

I almost always have a camera with me. I can't tell you how delighted I am to have a small Nikon Coolpix which is so easy to take everywhere!  Why? Because I never know when I will spot something a bit extraordinary!  Where else would you expect to see an auto like this but in Philadelphia!

Decorating for Halloween

I'm very happy this guy is busy decorating the outside of my house, not inside!

Food!

I'm on vacation. I'm still very busy catching up on all my tasks at home. But no one can work all the time, so I headed to one of my favorite spots, The Ship Inn, for dinner the other night.
I wound up with enough ribs for two dinners!

Mystery Tree

I was walking today in Frenchtown, New Jersey, testing my new camera. I came upon this tree with strange blossoms.... can anyone identify it? It was about 8 feet tall with large hanging blooms and many buds. A bit spooky in fact.

Contrasts

Sometimes I have to look for that which is unusual, the contrasts. Here's a photo from one of my first visits to the High line. I know you are saying, Wait... that's in NY!!! New York and New Jersey are like Yin and Yang, anyone who might deny this is living in another time and place!

Walking New York

I went downtown today to the site of the World Trade Center. I have been in the area a number of times, and have not been able to escape a feeling of great sadness.
I got off the subway and walked in front of the Federal Office Building, and was struck by this image. Seems to me that Lady Liberty was bent by the sadness of events, how prophetic!

New Favorites

OK
It's not NJ, it's NY.
The High Line. It's different, there's nothing like being able to walk without stopping every other block for lights.
And the views are just different!

Past and present

I was on the train coming home from New York. A man got on , sat across the aisle, and immediately pulled out his sketch book and started drawing. I looked at him, and looked again. We chatted a bit. No, it was not my good friend Christopher, but Bill certainly resembles him quite a bit, especially when he was smiling!

IT's Weird in New Jersey!

Normally in July, New Jersey is sweating. Everyone heads to the shore for the cool ocean breeze because it's 80 degrees or better.
Not this year! In fact, it's been so cool that my mums, which normally bloom in the fall, have decided to bloom now, along with the day lilies! I wish some one could explain this weather!

A slice of heaven

My friends have just a fabulous property, filled with day lilies in all shapes and colors, as well as many other beautiful plants.
I always enjoy a visit, a little slice of heaven on earth.

Summer Blooms

My friends in Connecticut have thousands of day lilies, in all sizes and colors. I only have a few due to the tiny size of my yard.
Here's a bloom from one I bought last summer, it's called Strutter's Ball. I just love the deep purple with contrasting yellow center.

Good-bye !

I said good- bye to my first space ship today. Pleased to have a Toyota dealer evaluate it and say "like new" after almost 58,000 miles. It was a super car, and I felt it was just getting better and better to drive... why did I sell it? You'll see in a few days!

In the Kitchen

Contrary to popular belief, I do have some domestic skills. Currently working long days, I'm lucky to get a chance to run for a cup of coffee. so I do mass cooking for my take along meals.
Yesterday, it was drizzling so I had to cook in side. The results- roasted veggies and chicken breasts. The vegetables look just georgous in the turquoise ceramic dish.

First

Right now, my tiny yard is just a massive patch of weeds, from all the rain we have had, and the owner who has had no time to work on it! However, this week, the first rose opened, it is always a very special event. It's a Don Juan rose bush that I have had for many years. The first round of blooms are the most fragrant. Too bad I can't post the smell for you to enjoy!

Scenes- seen

A bit of play for the eye and mind! It's amazing what the world brings to us if we take a moment to notice.

There is always a sight to see!

I just love New York City. I grew up in the area and had to leave upstate New York because I just missed it too much.
There is always something happening, something different, it's a very difficult place to be bored.
I saw this person in a very unique outfit walking down 8th avenue the other week. You can imagine my surprise when the person turned around and I saw a very long gray beard attached to the face!

Snow!

It snowed last night... not too much and not too little. The light kind that sticks in the trees and makes everything just beautiful.
I wouldn't mind this kind of snow more often!

New King of the house!

I wrote previously about my friend Igor, who had been with me for many years.
With winter bearing down, I decided it was time to find a new friend ... and so I went to petfinder.com.  So many cats, all needing good homes.  I found Sammy, he's definitely the new king of the house! Part siamese, he has very exotic looks.
Sad story, he was found homeless in one of the wealthier suburban towns.  Unfortunately, many people who find they can no longer take care of pets just abandon them. Please contact a shelter or rescue group if you have that problem! There are many caring people who will help you do the right thing.
